The Sims 4 Fans Are Furious with EA !
Firstly, it’s official. The new game pack announced by EA on August 27, 2020, will indeed be a pack dedicated to the Star Wars universe. Secondly, this new pack will be called “Journey to Batuu”. Moreover, in the trailer, we can see that the entire Star Wars universe has been adapted to The Sims 4 game. Thirdly, the game will be officially available on September 8.
For several days, the game’s main menu has been displaying a cosmic logo. Consequently, this led to numerous speculations about a Star Wars-themed pack. And players had already expressed their regret about having such a pack.
Thus, in the trailer, we can see that it’s possible to hone a new “lightsaber” skill. Players can also become friends with a droid, and the missions will be related to the Star Wars universe. So, players will be able to choose to be part of the resistance or join the forces of the First Order. They will be able to build their own droid and lightsaber before starting their training, which will allow them to gain Fitness skills.
This announcement is not unanimously welcomed by The Sims 4 players !
Indeed, what’s striking is the number of dislikes on the trailer posted on YouTube on August 27, 2020. More than 74,000 dislikes. At first glance, this is huge compared to other Sims 4 expansion pack trailers. In the comments, most players are disappointed with this announcement and don’t understand why a Star Wars-themed expansion is being implemented when players are not at all interested in this pack.
Of course, players of this game don’t have the same interests as Star Wars fans. Moreover, many don’t understand the connection between The Sims and Star Wars, which are two very different universes and not necessarily compatible.
Hence, Unhappy Players Who Feel Unheard
Consequently, players feel abandoned by EA, which is not listening to their recommendations to improve the game.
Now, it’s true, we don’t understand how a company like EA doesn’t know the target audience that buys its games. Because they only had to look at social media to understand that people didn’t want such a pack.
Certainly, most players are waiting for expansions for the arrival of babies in the game, mountains, winter sports, farming …
Furthermore, Game Boycott by Some Fans
On the other hand, to retaliate, many players have called for not buying this pack to resist and have their demands finally heard by the game developer.
On the other hand, I observed several comments with this message: “DO NOT buy this pack, we need to show EA that we are not going to spend money on them if they treat us like this, completely ignoring us and pushing the important things like race equality, good game play, REAL babies, etc into the corner, we need to show EA that we are not their money bags for them to milk all they like, if you actually want this pack, go ahead but if you don’t, don’t just buy it for the sake of it”
In other words, in English: “DO NOT buy this pack, we need to show EA that we are not going to spend money on them if they treat us like this, completely ignoring us and pushing the important things like race equality, good gameplay, REAL babies, etc. into the corner. We need to show EA that we are not their money bags for them to milk all they like. If you actually want this pack, go ahead, but if you don’t, don’t just buy it for the sake of it.”
Thus, the users’ discontent is clear; they are very disappointed. EA regularly conducts surveys to understand their players’ expectations, and in fact, the latest ones conducted by EA placed the Star Wars expansion in last position. In the top rankings, we could find: hotel management, the return of cars in the game, babies, and more skin colors for characters…
Also, a commercial partnership that intrigues The Sims 4 players
Indeed, it is a commercial partnership with Lucasfilm studios (owned by Disney) to promote the saga that is currently continuing in a series on Disney+. However, for many players, this partnership is only there to enrich EA studios and not to please the players. In other words, many internet users think that Disney keeps selling its Star Wars license to anyone, at the expense of quality content.
Thus, Douglas Reilly, Vice President of Lucasfilm Games, indicated that he likes the idea of being able to offer players the opportunity to tell their own Star Wars story, and the free form of storytelling and self-expression that The Sims 4 offers is ideal for players who are Star Wars fans.
On the other hand, this new expansion pack may attract players who are not fans of The Sims 4 but have a penchant for the Star Wars universe. Moreover, perhaps this is EA’s strategy to attract other players? However, in any case, it is obvious that the game will appeal to a good number of Star Wars fans.
On the other hand, the good news is that this commercial operation does not prevent EA from working on other projects that will please seasoned players.
